Fleet Mission
Formed in 2402, Vanguard Squadron's primary mission has been one of deep-space exploration. Over the years it's role has evolved, expanding to include diplomacy, first contact, interdiction, colonization, tactical support, search and rescue, and intelligence-gathering.
Area of Operations
Vanguard Fleet operates primarily in the Alpha Quadrant, from the spinward side of Sol Sector (home to the Sol/Terran system and Federation headquarters) to the Bajoran Sector (home to the Bajoran system), and the nearby borders the Federation shares with the Cardassian Union, the Klingon Empire, and the Ferengi Alliance. Via the Bajoran Wormhole, Vanguard Fleet is also charged with maintaining the first stable Federation presence in the Gamma Quadrant as established by the Federation and Dominion co-signed Treaty of Bajor, patroling and exploring a region of space of over 30,000 light-years. |

FirefightingAboard Federation starships, a variety of systems were used to combat fires. Most habitable areas were equipped with containment field generators used to create a small forcefield around any fires. This would deprive the fire of atmospheric oxygen, extinguishing it. Handheld extinguishers were also available. In an extreme emergency, some parts of a ship could also be vented into the vacuum of space. | | | |
